WideMedia Group, a leading media organization in Greece with a robust footprint across television broadcasting and digital media, has appointed PTS, a renowned Broadcasting Systems Integrator, to spearhead a comprehensive technology modernization initiative. The initial technical approach to the project was presented from PTS to WideMedia during IBC in Amsterdam, in September 2024. This large-scale project aims to transform the technological infrastructure of the Group’s flagship television channel, Action24, as well as its digital platforms, Flash.gr, Athletiko.gr, and News4Health.gr — positioning WideMedia Group at the forefront of innovation and excellence in content production across all media formats.
The initiative encompasses a comprehensive digital transformation, incorporating state-of-the-art solutions across content acquisition, shared production storage, Media Asset Management (MAM), Production Asset Management (PAM), Newsroom Computer Systems (NRCS), and playout automation. This strategic investment is designed to significantly enhance operational efficiency, streamline workflows, and elevate content production quality—reinforcing the leadership of Action24 in the rapidly evolving Greek broadcasting landscape, while also advancing the performance and scalability of the Group’s digital platforms: Flash.gr, Athletiko.gr, and News4Health.gr.
The project is structured into four distinct phases, with the final implementation expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The first phase focuses on the deployment of ingest, storage, MAM ands, allowing for automated content acquisition, processing, and management. The second phase, introduce an advanced newsroom and playout automation system, ensuring seamless integration of commercial and technical requirements while maximizing flexibility and reliability. The third phase will see the enhancement of control rooms and production studios, equipping them with cutting-edge technology to support news and talk-show production. The fourth and final phase will involve the modernization of the second production control room, integrating a high-end Ross Video Ultrix Acuity 3 M/E production switcher, Ross Video MediaIO production video server, and newsroom workflow automation with Ross Video Inception and Streamline Pro.
Beyond infrastructure upgrades, PTS will deliver comprehensive training and hands-on coaching to ensure that personnel are fully equipped to leverage the new systems.
Dedicated training sessions and workflow optimization coaching will enable staff to maximize productivity and efficiency, adapting seamlessly to the automation-driven environment. With PTS overseeing the full integration process, the project will deploy cutting-edge technology from industry-leading providers, including Ross Video for all major automation systems and MAM solutions, Pebble Beach for playout automation, RTS for intercom systems, Harmonic for streaming capabilities and Disk Archive Corporation DAC & SFS Media (HSM) for Archive.
Upon completion, Action24 will operate in full HD, with a scalable infrastructure designed to support UHD progressive broadcasting. This future-proof upgrade sets new benchmarks for media production excellence in both Greece and Europe. The investment underscores WideMedia Group’s ongoing commitment to continuous innovation, advanced automation, and the highest standards in both broadcast and digital media production.
